FBI agents search Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort
On Monday evening, FBI agents conducted a surprise search of Donald Trump’s Florida home, the Mar-a-Lago resort. Trump was at his New York City home at the time.
News reports said the agents served a search warrant as a part of an investigation on whether Trump took classified and presidential documents from his time at the White House to Florida, which is against the law.
Trump said in a statement that FBI agents raided his home and put it under siege. He said, “they even broke into my safe.”
CNN said the Justice Department, led by Attorney General Merrick Garland, “has two known active investigations connected to the former President, one on the effort to overturn the 2020 presidential election and January 6, 2021, and the other involving the handling of classified documents.”
Republican leaders expressed anger at the FBI search and framed it as a politically motivated action that was aimed at damaging Trump.
Democratic leaders said the search was appropriate because if Trump mishandled classified information, it would put our security at risk.
We do not know what exactly the FBI agents searched and what they found. We also don’t know if all of this will lead to criminal charges against Trump.
Olivia Newton-John passes away at 73
Actress and singer Olivia Newton-John passed away on Monday evening at the age of 73. She was best known for her starring role as Sandy in the 1978 film, “Grease” opposite John Travolta.
The New York Times said she was also a successful singer who released several chart-topping songs in the 1970s and ’80s.
Olivia was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1992. In 2017, she announced that her cancer returned and spread. She passed away at her ranch in Southern California.
Nurse charged with murder after killing six in crash
In Los Angeles, a nurse named Nicole Linton was charged with six counts of murder after she allegedly drove her car at about 90 mph through an intersection and slammed into multiple other cars, killing six people, including a pregnant woman, her unborn child, and her 11-month-old baby boy.
The incident was on Thursday afternoon. A video shows the nurse’s vehicle speeding like a missile before it slams into crossing traffic. There was an immediate burst of flames — three cars burned.
The pregnant woman who died was Asherey Ryan. She was over eight months pregnant and was traveling with her boyfriend Reynold Lester and their 11-month-old son Alonzo to a prenatal doctor’s appointment when they were hit. All were killed.
Two other women were killed when the car they were in was hit by Linton’s vehicle.
Linton was hospitalized after the crash and then was taken to jail. She is currently being held on a $9 million bail. Her attorney said she was going through profound mental health issues before the crash and that she didn’t have drugs or alcohol in her system.
A GoFundMe set up for Asherey’s family has raised over $150,000. There is a memorial set up at the intersection.

Researchers developing potential vaccine against Lyme disease
Scientists are now testing the first potential vaccine against Lyme disease, which is caused by bites from ticks that carry a specific kind of bacteria. The bites usually cause a circular rash and if the disease is not treated, it can spread through the body and cause severe arthritis and damage the heart and nervous system.
AP News said Lyme is a growing problem because warming weather is helping ticks to expand their habitat.
Pfizer and its partner Valneva, a French company, are now seeking at least 6,000 volunteers in the U.S. and Europe to test the vaccines. The vaccines would protect adults and kids older than five. Those who are at high risk of Lyme disease are outdoor-type people, such as hikers, campers and hunters.
Actress Anne Heche in coma after fiery crash
Actress Anne Heche crashed her car into a house in Los Angeles on Friday and sustained serious injuries and burn wounds. Her spokesperson said she fell into a coma on Monday and is now in critical condition and needs the help of a ventilator to breathe.
Firefighters said Heche’s Mini Cooper was apparently traveling at a high rate of speed and launched through the front yard and entered the home about 30 feet in. The crash caused the house to burn up and firefighters were able to pull out Heche. Police tested Heche’s blood for drugs and alcohol and the results have not been released yet.
There was a female resident inside the home who was with her dogs. They were not hurt, but the resident said she lost everything. Her name is Lynne Mishele. A GoFundMe set up for her raised over $100,000.
Serena Williams to retire after U.S. Open
Serena Williams announced that she will retire after the U.S. Open this month so she can focus on her family and business. She is 40 years old and considered one of the greatest tennis athletes ever with her 23 Grand Slam titles and 73 overall titles.
Serena wrote in “Vogue” that she doesn’t like the word, “retirement” and considers what she is doing an “evolution” — that she is evolving away from tennis and towards other things that are important to her. She said she feels torn but she’s ready for what’s next.
That means the US Open, which will start in three weeks in New York City, will be the last time we’ll be able to see Serena compete.
That is all the top stories for today. See you tomorrow and stay with the light.
