100 years anniversary of women’s rights to vote
100 years ago today marks the day of the 19th amendment which guaranteed women here in the USA the right to vote. While this is a celebration, we also must acknowledge that the amendment was not fully inclusive. Black and Brown women faced barriers to achieve equal voting access until the Voting Rights Act was passed in 1965.
CNN posted an article of photos from the last 100 years that included women such as Amelia Earhart- the first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean, Rosa Parks- one of the biggest leaders of civil rights movement, US Rep. Shirley Chisholm – first Black woman in Congress, and all the way up to Katie Sowers- first woman and openly gay person to coach in a Super Bowl for the San Francisco 49ers team. I have added a link in the transcript that you can look through the photos.
Jennifer Carroll Foy, Virginia House of Delegates, hopes to be the first Black woman governor in the USA. She mentioned that she is grateful for her rights today to vote, but she also mentioned herself as a Black woman, there is still work to be done. She quoted, “Until all women have full and unfettered rights to vote, the fight for women’s right to vote continues.”
Three top producers fired from the “Ellen DeGeneres Show”
Three top producers of the “Ellen DeGeneres Show” have been fired due to allegations of mistreatment on the show set.
About a month ago, several employees came forward and alleged Ed Glavin, Kevin Leman, and co-executive producer Jonathan Norman of sexual misconduct.
Warner Bros issued an investigation which included interviews with current and former employees. That investigation led to firing the three top producers. Some other former “Ellen” employees claimed to Buzzfeed that they faced racism, fear, and intimidation while they worked on the show.
Yesterday, Ellen was in a video conference with her 200 talk-show staffers and apologized to them for what happened and ensured that it will “not happen again.” She mentioned that she cares for everyone working on the show and would like to do better.
The Ellen DeGeneres show has been a long time running show that has aired since 2003. The show has about 3,000 episodes and employs over 1,000 staff members. DeGeneres and the studio are committed to making the workplace a safe environment. They said that they will provide training and education programs for all of the show’s managers and will have a dedicated human resources representative.
New flavor for Girl Scouts cookies coming in 2021
Are any of you a fan of Girl Scout cookies? They usually have their usual flavors Thin Mints, Samosa, Shortbread, etc. Girl Scouts Cookie Program is considered the largest girl-led program in the world. They recently announced a newly added flavor that will come out in 2021: French Toast. The shape will look like actual mini sliced French Toast with icing.
Because of the pandemic, Girl Scouts offered customers to order online. Girl Scout cookies are usually very popular starting in January. They will also offer virtual cookie booths on social media when the season begins.
Several news articles like CNN and USA Today did tweet this news and I read some comments- there were people expressing their excitement for this flavor and some others did not think this was a good flavor.
Would you eat this kind of flavor?
That’s all for now. See you tomorrow. Stay with the light.
