Denny’s restaurant said it will add an egg surcharge to meals that include eggs due to rising costs due to a nationwide egg shortage.

There is a popular movement of a “24-hour economic blackout” that calls for a boycott on Feb. 28 against Amazon, Walmart, fast food, gas, and any other major retailer.
The movement is being led by “The People’s Union USA” and its founder John Schwarz.

Supreme Court orders new trial for Richard Glossip
The Supreme Court ordered a new trial for Richard Glossip, who is an Oklahoma inmate with a death sentence. He has been on death row for about 25 years.
The Supreme Court, in a 5-3 ruling, said the prosecution failed to correct testimony of their key witness during the Glossip trial and it violated Glossip’s right to due process.
CBS News and NYMag explained that Glossip was convicted in the 1997 murder of Barry Van Tresse, the owner of an Oklahoma City motel where Glossip worked at.
A man, Justin Sneed, claimed that Glossip paid him $10,000 to kill the motel owner. He has admitted to killing him and is currently serving life in prison. Glossip said he was not involved at all and did not make the $10,000 payment. After the murder, police and the local district attorney’s office suspected that Glossip was involved and got Sneed to sign a plea agreement to say that he murdered the motel owner under orders from Glossip.
What is the testimony issue? It is alleged that prosecutors against Glossip knew about but did not share with Glossip’s defense team that Sneed saw a psychiatrist in jail and was prescribed lithium for a bipolar disorder diagnosis. During Glossip’s trial, Sneed testified that he never saw a psychiatrist and the prosecutors never corrected him.
The Supreme Court said if prosecutors corrected Sneed, it would have revealed to the jury that Sneed was untrustworthy. The Supreme Court said it was irrelevant that Sneed had bipolar disorder but his willingness to lie about it to the jury was relevant.
So, Glossip will go through a new trial.

Southwest plane nearly collides with private jet
This morning, a Southwest Airlines plane that was about to land at Chicago’s Midway Airport had to suddenly pull up to avoid colliding with a private business jet that was going across the runway.
An audio recording from air traffic control showed that the private plane was only supposed to cross one runway but hold at another.
The FAA said the business jet entered the runway without authorization and is investigating.
The Southwest flight was coming from Omaha, Nebraska and the business jet was bound for Knoxville, Tennessee.
A former NTSB official told CBS News that the “eyes and actions of the Southwest pilots kept this event from being a serious accident.”

Over 250k Canadians sign petition to revoke Musk’s citizenship
Over 250,000 Canadians signed a petition to strip Elon Musk of his Canadian citizenship.
The Guardian explained that it is a parliamentary petition that is available online and is an “official” petition that is sponsored by a Canadian lawmaker.
Musk has Canadian citizenship through his mother Maye Musk, who is from Saskatchewan.
The petition said Musk is a part of a “foreign government that is attempting to erase Canadian sovereignty” – referring to Musk’s role in the Trump administration and Trump’s multiple remarks on making Canada the 51st U.S. state.
The petition, because it’s passed 500 signatures, now can be presented to Canada’s House of Commons and may garner a formal government response. The House of Commons plans to resume its work on March 24.

New plant species called “Wooly Devil”
The National Park Service announced that a new plant species has been discovered at the Big Bend National Park in southwest Texas. It is called the “Wooly Devil.” This plant was first discovered by a botany volunteer and a park ranger in March 2024. They saw the plant among desert rocks and realized they had never seen anything like it before. They tried to find information on this plant but there was nothing out there – which means it is a new species. Park officials said there’s a lot to learn about the plant going forward.
