Canada beats USA in 4 Nations Face-Off final

Last night, Canada’s hockey team defeated the U.S. in another exciting match to win the 4 Nations Face-Off championship. It was a 3-2 overtime victory.

Canadian Prime Minister posted on social media, “You can’t take our country — and you can’t take our game.” It was clearly directed at President Trump, who had some ideas of annexing Canada and making it the 51st state.

Congratulations to Canada. I think the U.S. played very well and could have won but Canada’s goalie was too good in overtime, blocking or catching multiple shots and gave Canada enough time to find the winning score.

NYC Mayor Eric Adams’ case delayed

Federal judge Dale Ho said he would delay New York City Mayor Eric Adams’ trial on corruption charges indefinitely while he weighs a decision on whether to dismiss his charges.

I explained in a news report on Monday that federal prosecutors, last year, indicted Adams with accepting bribes from foreign officials. Adams denied the allegations. After Trump won the election, Adams seemed to embrace him and his administration and showed willingness to work with them on immigration enforcement. After Trump’s new leaders were installed in the Department of Justice, they instructed prosecutors on Adams’ case to drop the case, but they resigned in protest and accused Adams and the Trump administration of doing an unethical quid-pro-quo to drop the prosecution in exchange for cooperation on immigration.

So the ball is in the judge’s court (pun maybe intended). Judge Ho said he would appoint an independent lawyer to present arguments on why he shouldn’t dismiss the case.

L.A. Mayor fires fire chief over wildfires

L.A. Mayor Karen Bass fired the fire chief in L.A., Kristin Crowley, saying it is because she allowed about 1,000 firefighters to go home instead of being duty on the morning the deadly wildfires broke out last month.

Bass was herself criticized for being out of the country at the time the wildfires broke out. Bass cast blame on Crowley for not calling her to alert that there was dangerous weather coming.

ABC News said Rick Caruso, a billionaire who lost a mayoral race in 2022 to Bass, alleged that Bass fired Crowley because she spoke out about budget cuts to the LAFD. He said Bass is responsible for ignoring weather warnings and leaving the city.

Dispute over body of Israeli hostage Shiri Bibas

Last night the Israeli military said Hamas did not hand over the body of Israeli hostage and mother Shiri Bibas and instead handed over the body of another person. Israel said they did forensic testing. The identities of the bodies of Bibas’ two young children and an elderly man were confirmed, but not of the mother.

BBC reported that Hamas handed a body to Red Cross today that is supposed to be Shiri Bibas and Israel is now reviewing it. Hamas said there was a mix-up.

Hamas claimed that the Bibas family died from an Israeli airstrike, but the Israeli government said today that the Bibas kids were murdered by terrorists’ bare hands.

The father of the children, Yarden, was separated from the family during the Oct. 7 attacks and was held hostage. He was released a few weeks ago. The Israeli military said Yarden wanted the world to know how his children died.

Issue of birthright citizenship may go before Supreme Court

A federal appeals court ruled against President Trump’s executive order to end birthright citizenship for babies born on U.S. soil to parents who are in the country illegally or on a temporary visa.

CNN said the case could go before the Supreme Court.

Previously, a lower court said Trump’s order was unconstitutional. The 14th amendment said all persons born in the U.S. are citizens.

The Trump administration argued that immigrants are exploiting a loophole.

We’ll see if this goes before the Supreme Court.
