THE BULB: Thomas Edison
Pretty cool history about Thomas Edison! Did you know this before? What else do you know about Edison? Comment below! -
Transcript: Who invented the light bulb? Thomas Edison. Did you know that Edison was deaf in one ear and hard of hearing in the other ear? He himself said that he was a deaf person. Now, he was not the first person to invent a light bulb itself, but the first person to invent an incandescent light bulb. This means when a light bulb is able to stay on for longer and not “burn out” sooner. What we see today with our lights being able to stay on for long periods of time is because of Edison’s invention. He was an innovator. He invented over 1,000 things. He had over 1,000 patented things! It’s amazing. He himself said he is content with being deaf because of short conversations. When a hearing person walks in the room and tries to talk to him, they would have a short conversation because he was deaf. He would focus more on inventing things, experimenting on things, and etc. That’s cool. Maybe that is why he invented over 1,000 things! I did look up on how he communicated as a deaf person, perhaps he knew some basic signs or maybe he spoke, or even read lips. I could not really find much information on that. I am not sure how he communicated, but he definitely found his own way! I thought it was cool that he said that he was happy being a deaf person. Cool. Now, when you see a burning light bulb, you know a deaf person invented that! Clearly Edison would understand our signature: STAY WITH THE LIGHT!
