Suspect in murder of Illinois family found dead

Police in Illinois said the suspected murderer of a family of four who was found dead on Sunday night died in a burning vehicle in Oklahoma after it tried to evade police and crashed.

The suspect’s name is Nathaniel Huey, Jr. (32). Police explained that his vehicle crashed and caught on fire. Police then heard gunshots and as they approached the vehicle, they saw that Huey was deceased with a gunshot wound. There was a woman who was riding with him and she also had a gunshot wound. She was seriously injured and later died at a hospital.

Police said there is evidence that points to a connection between Huey and the murdered family but did not explain what it is.

The family of four that was murdered were a 38-year-old father, a 32-year-old mother and two boys, aged 7 and 9. The family’s three dogs were also killed.

Huey was a security guard and had posted on social media pictures of guns and ammo.

Tropical storm warning for US East Coast

There is a tropical storm warning for the U.S. East Coast from North Carolina to Delaware due to “Potential Tropical Cyclone Sixteen” that is approaching. Its maximum sustained winds are 35 mph.

AP News said the current system could reach the North Carolina coast around Friday night or early Saturday. Concerns are strong winds, heavy rain, flooding, and storm surge.

Zelenskyy visits Congress

Ukrainian President Zelenskyy visited Congress today to ask for $24 billion in funding for its defense against Russia’s war.

ABC News said the U.S. aid is tied up in a showdown with House Republicans over spending as a deadline looms for a government shutdown.

President Biden supports the additional funding, but House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R) said he has questions for Zelenskyy such as what the plan is for victory and the current status of the war. At least 29 House Republicans are opposed to funding Ukraine.

In separate but related news, there was a wave of Russian missiles and bombs hitting various cities across Ukraine today that killed at least five people.

Free Covid-19 home tests

The US government will provide free Covid-19 home tests to Americans again. Households can order four free tests by going to www.Covidtests.gov.

CNN said the free tests are provided at a time when Covid-19 hospitalizations have been on the rise in U.S. since July with weekly admissions now more than triple what they were two months ago.

Rupert Murdoch steps down as chairman of Fox and News Corp.

Rupert Murdoch will be stepping down as chairman of Fox Corp and News Corp. His son, Lachlan, will become the new leader. Murdoch is 92 years old and is stepping down after a 70-year career.

News Corp. owns The Wall Street Journal and the NY Post, while Fox is the parent company of Fox News and Fox Business.

Rare $10,000 bill auctioned for $480k

CNN said a rare $10,000 bill dating back to the Great Depression has sold for $480,000 at auction.

The bill was issued in 1934. It has the face of then-President Lincoln’s Secretary of the Treasury, Salmon Chase.

Heritage Auctions, who organized the auction, said large-denomination notes have always drawn the interest of collectors.

The U.S. government said currency notes in denominations of $500 or higher were discontinued in 1969 due to lack of use. The highest denomination note is the $100 bill.
