Sen. Gillibrand visits RIT/NTID and calls for additional federal funding
ABC 13 News in Rochester, New York reported that Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) visited the RIT/NTID campus and called for more than $95 million in federal funding for NTID, which is a $3.4 million increase from the previous year.

The report said Sen. Gillibrand sent a letter to the Senate Appropriations Committee requesting the funds for the 2024-2025 school year. The funds would be used to hire additional sign language interpreters and captioners and also be used for STEM outreach activities for middle and high school students.

RIT/NTID posted on its Facebook page that Sen. Gillibrand visited RIT’s Student Hall for Exploration and Development (SHED) and proposed a 3.6% increase of its annual federal appropriation to $95.9 million.
Sen. Gillibrand tweeted a photo of her with NTID President Gerry Buckley. She said RIT/NTID “plays an extraordinary role in providing opportunities for the deaf and hard-of-hearing community.”
