SC deaf man arrested for sexually assaulting minor under 11

A 36-year-old deaf man in South Carolina named Xavier Letrell Williams was arrested on January 9 and charged with first-degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor who is under 11. He is still incarcerated at the Horry County Jail in Conway without bail.

Xavier is pretty well-known in South Carolina as a star football athlete who was a part of the South Carolina School for the Deaf and Blind football team’s undefeated season in 2004. He also excelled in league basketball. He was featured in a commercial with Chase Bank last year as an employee of a small business that made bicycles.

I was in touch with a person named Lionel Henry who knew Xavier. He said he knew him since they were elementary students but started to drift apart when they got older because they had different perspectives about how things should be. Lionel said he sensed a “bad vibe” that he didn’t like. Lionel said he is sad to hear the news but unfortunately, he is not too surprised.

Lionel said Xavier was a part-time pastor at a church in Conway and would preach to hearing people using his voice.

According to a South Carolina law firm, a conviction of first-degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor under 11 years of age carries a potential penalty of 25 years to life in prison.
