RID President Jonathan Webb to step down on Aug 31
The RID President Jonathan Webb announced on Thursday in a public vlog that he is going to resign on August 31.
In his opening statement, he said it’s been a month of turmoil for RID and that the turmoil seemed to be “normal” lately. Here is a clip from his announcement.
John Webb:
There has been quite a bit of turmoil regarding RID that has extended for a solid month. These upheavals within RID are nothing new. I’m not sure when this will die down. However this one has a particular feel to it.
Alex: Webb was voted as the first Black RID president in July 2019.
Last month, RID members elected Webb for another term over a Black Deaf candidate, Ritchie Bryant, and a deaf female candidate, Priscilla Poynor Moyers. Webb received over 43% of the vote.

Alex: There was criticism on social media directed towards Webb, a hearing man, for not relinquishing his position to allow either deaf candidate have a historic moment to win the presidency.
Webb said after getting advice from multiple people, he decided that it was time to step down. I will show you two more clips from his vlog.
John Webb: I have determined that my time here as the RID President has come to an end.
This is an opportunity, regardless of whether it is for the right or wrong reasons, for people to see a hearing person holding power being willing and happy to relinquish it and give space to others.
Webb said someone else would take over on September 1. He also said the RID would announce a new deaf CEO “soon,” sometime in July.
