Recap of Night 1 of “Bachelor:” Deaf woman Abigail receives first impression rose

Renca Dunn (Daily Moth Reporter):

Last night was the opening night of “The Bachelor” Season 25 with the first Black man as the bachelor, Matt James (29). For Matt’s season, there is a deaf contestant, Abigail Heringer (25), from Oregon. Last Wednesday “The Daily Moth” did a news story about Abigail and briefly explained who she is and some other information. You can check out that video from last week about Abigail.

This is a recap of last night’s episode focusing on the parts with Abigail.

For Abigail’s introduction video, she said that she is a deaf person and was born deaf. She said she has a cochlear implant and if she takes it off, she cannot hear anything. Abigail did say that it might be an awkward thing to bring up to Matt on a first date, but she also said she loves it when people ask her questions about her being deaf.

For Abigail’s entrance (walking out of the limo), she was wearing a blue elegant dress and introduced herself to Matt that she was deaf and said she would need to read Matt’s lips a lot, but was grateful that Matt had nice lips.

After all of the women arrived and introduced themselves, they all mingled in the Bachelor mansion. Matt and Abigail did have some alone time. In their conversation, Abigail said her older sister who is one year and a half older is also deaf. She said both of them are very close. She also said that her older deaf sister has been very vocal about being deaf so Abigail follows in her sister’s footsteps. Based on Matt’s body language and behavior, it seems that he is smitten about Abigail. He kept telling her how gorgeous she was. Both of them exchanged a very long kiss. This was Matt’s first real kiss on the show and he was the one who made the move on Abigail.

That’s not all, Matt also gave Abigail the first impression rose too. He said that he asked the women to be vulnerable and felt that Abigail did do that and it was what he asked for.

Based on my observations, there was no interpreter and Abigail seemed to rely a lot on lipreading. She was able to speak for herself.

Eight women were sent home last night, but definitely not Abigail. Let’s see how she goes with this season. We will continue giving you recaps every week. Let’s see if she will continue to get a rose next week.
