Marlee says, “...one thing that’s very unique for me to acknowledge as a person who has always advocated for our community, especially with closed captioning… I want to say that finally, the Academy is recognizing an Academy Award of Merit, an Oscar for all closed captioning technology, the first of its kind at the Sci Tech Awards on April the 29th… I’m very, very proud…”]
A press release said the Academy would present an Oscar statuette to “collectively recognize ‘all the individuals who have developed and supported captioning technology, whether open or closed, for film.’ The statuette will reside at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures.”
The Academy said it would present the Oscar during its annual Scientific and Technical Awards ceremony on April 29, 2025.
