Old Navy removes t-shirts with VV handshapes
On Friday, I noticed that the Old Navy website was no longer offering t-shirts, onesies, or any material with a graphic design of two “V” handshapes with the slogan “Love One Another.” The handshapes are identical to the sign for “fuc****” and caused a stir on deaf social media last week.
A person on Twitter who said she was an Old Navy employee informed “The Daily Moth” that on Friday morning, there was a message to “pull and hold all units.” The person said there was not a reason listed, but she knew what was going on because her coworker showed her the sign.
I will show you two images of Old Navy’s website store — the first when the clothes were available earlier last week and the second when they were taken down on Friday.

I reached out to Gap / Old Navy and they confirmed on Friday that they have removed the products from stores and websites. They said on Wednesday that the graphic was intended to represent the peace sign but now have heard the feedback and are now working on reviewing their process to make sure any graphics using hands are vetted by an employee or consultant from the Deaf community to avoid any unintended meaning.
Several deaf people on Twitter remarked that now the clothes or materials are now collectibles or cultural artifacts.
