Oklahoma School for the Deaf spared damage from Sulphur tornadoes

The superintendent of the Oklahoma School for the Deaf, Dr. Heather Laine, posted on Facebook on Sunday that the OSD campus was spared damage from the deadly tornadoes that hit Sulphur on Saturday night.

Dr. Laine said the campus is safe and that there is no damage to buildings. She said the school would be closed for the week while their emergency management department handles the crisis.

Today, OSD posted on Facebook that it is inviting OSD families of students and staff, Deaf community members impacted by the tornadoes, and first responders to join them for meals this week. The school will provide breakfast and lunch on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. For more information, check OSD’s Facebook page.

The Oklahoma Association of the Deaf President Logan Evans posted on Facebook that some deaf people’s homes were damaged. He said the OAD website is providing links to resources for those who need help. He said there is a shelter at a church that is run by the Red Cross and provided an address. For more information, check out OAD’s Facebook page.

Our thoughts are with the Deaf community in Sulphur.
