Former First Lady Rosalynn Carter dies at 96

On Sunday, former First Lady Rosalynn Carter passed away at the age of 96.

Her husband, former President Jimmy Carter, said Rosalynn was his equal partner in everything he accomplished.

The couple was married for 77 years and had four children. They grew up in the same town of Plains, Georgia.

USAToday explained that Rosalynn was heavily involved with Jimmy’s presidency from supporting him on the campaign trail to being an adviser in the White House.

Israeli hostages negotiations; Palestinian premature babies

CNN reported that there are negotiations on a possible deal to release 50 hostages that Hamas seized from south Israel -in exchange for several days of a pause in fighting.

Hamas has been holding around 240 people as hostages since it carried out its brutal attack in south Israel on October 7, killing over 1,200 people, most of them civilians.

In separate news, 28 premature babies arrived in Egypt from Gaza. The babies were originally at the Al-Shifa Hospital that saw its services collapse due to the war and an Israeli military takeover. UN agencies said the babies’ conditions are not good at all and that several other babies have already passed away.

President Biden turns 81

It is President Biden’s birthday today. He is 81 years old.

Biden is the oldest president in history and if he wins the election in 2024, he would be 86 at the end of his second term.

Biden has joked about his age in the past, saying he is 180 years old. He said he has more experience than any other president.

CNN explained that many people said in polls that Biden’s age is their biggest concern when considering him as a candidate.

Biden’s rival Donald Trump is 77. He is three years and five months younger.

Runner films tense encounter with brown bear

A Californian runner named Laura Gold posted a viral video of a tense, surprise encounter with a big brown bear and her two cubs on a mountain trail.

The runner filmed herself backing away behind a trail corner. The bear followed around and came closer, but stopped. Laura said she used a whistle and roared at the bear with the help of another hiker. The bears went off a separate trail. What a relief.

Boeing 787 lands on Antarctica

A Boeing 787 Dreamliner jet landed on an icy runway in Antarctica a few days ago. The plane was operated by Norse Atlantic. The plane was carrying scientists and research equipment.

The plane first took off from Norway and made a stop in Cape Town, South Africa. It then went to the Antarctic. It returned to Norway without needing to refuel. It is a historic moment.
