Michigan Deaf Association providing free ClearMasks
ALEX (THE DAILY MOTH):
Hello!
I’m here with two representatives from the Michigan Deaf Association. Can you introduce yourselves?
JENNA GISEY:
Thank you. I’m Jenna Gisey.
CHRISTOPHER SAMP:
I’m Christopher Samp and I do public relations.
ALEX (THE DAILY MOTH):
So I’m here to talk about their special initiative to distribute free masks to deaf Michigan residents. I’ll let you explain.
CHRISTOPHER SAMP:
It’s for people in the local community who are unable to stay home — we provide ClearMasks for free. So you can be safe.
JENNA GISEY:
The ClearMasks are approved by the FDA for medical use and the founder is deaf! Very cool.
CHRISTOPHER SAMP:
The cool thing about this mask is that it doesn’t fog up eyeglasses. This mask also has an unique string. It’s easy to adjust. It won’t interfere with hearing aids or cochlear implants.
JENNA GISEY:
Who is qualified for it? You have to live in Michigan, you’re a deaf or hard of hearing person who is not working from home during Covid-19, or if you have deaf or hard of hearing staff.
CHRISTOPHER SAMP:
The fourth qualification is if you are a deaf or hard of hearing student who is attending in-person classes. Also, if you are an ASL Interpeter who does community interpreting gigs —we’ll provide it.
ALEX (THE DAILY MOTH):
It’s nice! It feels very comfortable. It’s soft around here. Easy to breathe. And you can read my lips! Nice.
CHRISTOPHER SAMP:
Where do you sign up?
JENNA GISEY:
That’s right. You can apply at michdeaf.org/clearmask
CHRISTOPHER SAMP:
We encourage people to stay at home. Wear masks. And socially distance. Let’s be safe and survive the coronavirus pandemic together.
BOTH:
Thank you!
