Driver dies after crashing into White House

A U.S. Secret Service spokesperson said a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed crashed into a gate at the White House complex late Saturday, killing the driver.

There was no threat to the president’s residence after the vehicle crashed into a barricade just before 10:30 p.m. Security protocols were implemented as officers cleared the vehicle and attempted to render aid to the male driver who was discovered deceased.

The Washington Metropolitan Police is investigating the crash alongside the Secret Service.

Wisconsin 8th grader saves bus full of students after driver passes out

Acie Holland III, an 8th-grader attending Glen Hills Middle School, noticed the bus was beginning to veer into the oncoming lane in Wisconsin. Then, he said he noticed his school bus driver was not responsive.

He said: “As we got about 20 feet down Villard, I was looking at my phone and I looked back up and I felt the bus accelerate. And I looked at the bus driver because she went past my stop and I looked and I seen her head just go down.”

That’s when Acie sprung into action, moving the bus driver’s foot off the gas, and hitting the brakes.

He then securely parked the bus, contacted 911, and told the younger students to call their parents. The driver then regained consciousness and was able to call her dispatch.

The Glen Hills School Community said they could not be any prouder of Acie.

Israeli authorities raid Al Jazeera after shutdown order

Israel’s Prime Minister Netanyahu said in a post on X: “The government headed by me unanimously decided the incitement channel Al Jazeera will be closed in Israel.”

Al Jazeera, the Qatar-based news network, called the move a criminal act. They said: “Israel’s decision infringed on the human right to access information. Israel’s suppression of the free press to cover up its crimes by killing and arresting journalists did not deter us from performing our duty. More than 140 Palestinian journalists have been martyred for the sake of the truth since the beginning of the war on Gaza.”

The Israeli Ministry of Communications said Sunday it had closed the network’s Jerusalem offices, and confiscated its communication equipment. The network’s broadcasts on cable and satellite were stopped, and access to its websites was blocked.

An Israeli official quoted Netanyahu as saying: “Al Jazeera reporters harmed Israel’s security and incited against IDF soldiers. It is time to expel the mouthpiece (or a spokesperson) of Hamas from our country.”

United Methodist Church removes same-sex wedding ban

The United Methodist Church removed on Wednesday its longstanding ban on ordaining gay clergy.

The overturning of the 40-year-old ban on self-avowed practicing homosexuals passed overwhelmingly and without debate.

Delegates, meeting in Charlotte, N.C., also voted to bar local leaders from penalizing clergy or churches for holding or declining to hold same-sex weddings. The vote effectively allows same-sex marriage in the church for the first time.

The end of the ban on gay clergy applies to the global church. The United Methodist Church is the second-largest Protestant denomination in the nation; the Southern Baptist Convention is the biggest.

See Alex’s story about the missing surfers in Mexico. Here you go.

Men believed to be missing surfers died from gunshots, Mexican officials say

Two Australian brothers and their American friend who went missing during a surfing vacation in Mexico last weekend are presumed to have been murdered.

Mexican authorities said the bodies of three men were found dumped in a remote well near a camping site they were staying at and that it is likely the three missing men. All were shot in the head.

Authorities said they believe that the attackers drove by the campsite and wanted to steal the surfers’ car because they wanted its tires and other parts. A fight may have happened, which led to the attackers shooting and killing the surfers.

Authorities said the surfers’ tents and truck were burned and the well was covered with boards. There was a fourth body found in the well, which was there for at least two weeks longer.

Three Mexican nationals were detained and one was charged with kidnapping. The investigation is ongoing.

The Australian brothers’ names were Callum and Jake Robinson. The American's name was Jack Carter Rhoad.

Thanks for that story. That’s all the top stories for today. See you tomorrow and stay with the light!
