January 4 political news briefs
The third news brief — an audio recording of a President Trump phone call with the Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger was released yesterday.
Trump said he thinks it is pretty clear he won Georgia and said there were many fraudulent voters or voters that were turned away at the polls. Trump said he was confident that there are enough votes to surpass the 11,779 votes he lost to Joe Biden in the certified results.
Raffensperger said Trump’s data about election irregularities was wrong. For example, Trump said there were 5,000 dead people who voted, but Raffensperger said there were only two. He said the GBI (Georgia Bureau of Investigation) and FBI agents had thoroughly investigated allegations of double or triple ballot counting.
Trump said the agents are dishonest or incompetent. He then accused Fulton County of taking out Dominion voting machines or replacing inner parts or shredding ballots.
An attorney representing Raffensperger said this is not true that the machines were taken out or altered.
Raffensperger said the problem is that people can say anything on social media.
Trump said you should want to have an accurate election and reminded Raffensperger that he is a Republican.
Raffensperger said he believes we do have an accurate election.
Trump warned that it is a crime to not report bad ballots. He said all he wants to do is to find 11,780 votes.
Raffensperger said Trump has people who submit information and he has his own people who submit information and then it comes before the court, and the court has to make a determination.
The phone call is a major controversy now with critics of Trump saying the call was criminal and amounted to election interference, while supporters of Trump said the call proved that Raffensperger is biased against Trump.
Georgia will have an important election tomorrow on both Senate seats, so the phone call brings even more attention towards Georgia.
