Secret tunnel found in NYC synagogue

AP News reported that there was a secret underground tunnel discovered at a synagogue (a Jewish religious building) in New York City. The synagogue is located at the global headquarters of the Chabad-Lubavitch movement in Brooklyn.

News images show that a wall of the synagogue had a breach that led to the tunnel. Officials and locals said young men in the community built the tunnel in secret. When synagogue leaders found out and tried to seal it off by pouring concrete, there were protests from those who supported the idea of a tunnel. Police was called to the building and after clashes, nine young men were arrested.

It is unknown what the purpose of the tunnel is, but those who supported it said they wanted to expand the synagogue. The tunnel leads to an empty apartment building behind the headquarters.

City inspectors are looking into whether the tunnel caused structural damage.

The 13 gunmen were later arrested and will be charged with terrorism.

Ecuadorian President Noboa said the country had entered an “internal armed conflict.”

AP News said there have been a series of attacks and police officer abductions in Ecuador and that two powerful gang leaders recently escaped from prison. Drug gangs have been fighting each other and the government for control of cocaine production and trafficking.

U.S. forces shoots down missiles in Red Sea

The U.S. and British navies have shot down at least 21 missiles and drones in the Red Sea that were launched by Houthi rebels, who are backed by Iran. The missiles were launched from Yemen while commercial ships were passing through the region.

Axios said Houthi attacks began in protest of Israel’s military action in Gaza and the attacks threaten supply chains and the global economy.

Elderly couple dies in home where heater was 1,000 degrees

Inside Edition reported that an elderly couple in South Carolina was found dead inside their home on Saturday, where the heater’s temperature was 1,000 degrees.

The couple’s family said they went to the home on Wednesday to help them with problems with the gas heater and hot water heater. They “fiddled” with a wire until the pilot light came on and then left. It seems like the settings were messed up because when firefighters went to the basement, they said it looked like the heater was on fire but it wasn’t. The heater was deactivated and it was measured to be over 1,000 degrees.

The home was opened to let cold air in and after 20 minutes, the interior still exceeded 120 degrees. First responders said the deceased couple’s body degrees exceeded the maximum reading of 106 degrees.

The couple’s names were Joan Littlejohn (84) and Glennwood Fowler (82). This is tragic news and can serve as a warning to all of us about being careful when dealing with heaters and getting professionals to come in if needed.

That is all the top stories for today. See you tomorrow and stay with the light.
