Introduction to API Heritage Month

CALLIE FRYE:

Hello! May is Asian and Pacific Islander American Heritage Month. Now it is time to celebrate and honor Asian and Pacific Islanders for their cultures, traditions, and history in the United States.

On social media, it is quite common for us to see API typically identified as Chinese, Korean and Japanese. On the map, it is easy to find China, Korea and Japan but Asia is a huge region. Hawaii is located in the far east and the far west is the Middle East.

Each one has their own cultures, traditions, and history that are often overlooked as part of Asian and Pacific Islander American Heritage Month. Not only that, many of us are not familiar with those people. Throughout the month, The Daily Moth will release a series of videos featuring various members of Deaf Asian and Pacific Islanders and their stories. Stay tuned!
