DOJ appeals judge’s ruling on special master

The Justice Department (DOJ) said it would appeal a federal judge’s ruling to bring in a special master to look at documents the FBI seized from Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago home, arguing in a filing that the classified documents they found does not belong to Trump and therefore does not need to be looked at by a special master to check on if it is privileged material.

The DOJ said it is obvious by looking at the classification markings on the face of the documents that they are government records, not Trump’s personal records.

The DOJ said it hurts the government and the public when its criminal investigation on issues of national security is halted. The DOJ said there may be more classified records at Trump’s home that are not being properly stored.

The judge, Aileen Cannon, gave Trump until 10 a.m. on Monday to respond to the DOJ's filing.

Two deputies killed in ambush

In Georgia, two Cobb County deputies were shot and killed when they tried to serve a warrant at a home.

The sheriff said it was an “ambush,” explaining that the two deputies knocked on a door and after getting no answer, returned to their car. But another vehicle pulled up. When the deputies got out of their car to talk with those in the vehicle, they were shot. One suspect opened fire from the house and another suspect opened fire from the car. The suspects then barricaded themselves into the home, which led to a standoff that lasted several hours. The two were then taken into custody and are now behind bars.

The sheriff has not revealed the identities of the deputies pending notification of family members but said the two were young men and worked with the sheriff’s office for over five years. He said it is like losing a family member and that their hearts are broken.

Chinese man trapped on floating hydrogen balloon

A Chinese man named Hu was stranded in the air for two days in a floating hydrogen balloon but safely came back down to the ground after traveling 200 miles.

CBS News explained that Hu and another person were on the balloon to harvest pine nuts from a tree. The balloon was tethered, but somehow it became untethered and flew away. The other person jumped off the balloon but Hu was stuck on it.

Rescuers contacted Hu via cellphone the next day and gave him instructions to slowly deflate the balloon. It took another day for him to reach the ground 200 miles away. He was almost at the border with Russia.

CBS said Hu is in good health but has pain in his back, possibly from standing the entire time he was in the air.
