Trump administration restricts TikTok and WeChat
The Trump administration plans to restrict access to TikTok and WeChat on Sunday. You won’t be able to download TikTok after Sunday. Those who have already downloaded TikTok can still use them, but there won’t be any updates. The app will become stagnant. For WeChat, on Sunday, you will be barred from using it. U.S. internet companies will be barred from carrying the WeChat platform.
TikTok is popular worldwide with 700 million users with 100 million here in the U.S. WeChat is a popular messaging/social media/mobile payment app in China. So there’s an impact.
TikTok and WeChat are owned by Chinese companies and the Trump administration said the restrictions are based on national security concerns.
A TikTok spokesperson said it was “unjust” and would continue to fight the order in federal court.
Firefighter dies in wildfire caused by gender reveal party
A firefighter in southern California died while fighting the El Dorado Fire yesterday. The fire started from a smoke-generating pyrotechnic device that was used during a baby gender reveal party. The fire started on September 5 and spread quickly on dry grass. It has consumed 30 square miles. The couple who hosted the party could be criminally charged and be held liable for damages.
Donald Trump accused of sexual assault
Amy Dorris, a former model, said in an interview with The Guardian that Donald Trump sexually assaulted her during a US Open tennis tournament in New York in 1997. Dorris said she was 24 at the time. She said Trump, who was 51 at the time, grabbed her all over her body and forced his tongue into her mouth without consent. Trump’s attorneys said it is not true at all.
Parents allowed son to attend high school while infected with coronavirus
In Attleboro, Massachusetts, parents of a high school student allowed him to attend in-person classes even though he tested positive for Covid-19 only a few days prior. There were 30 people who had contact with the student and they all are now quarantined for two weeks. The city mayor said there is no question that the parents knew about the positive coronavirus result.
