President Joe Biden addressed the nation last night on the one-year anniversary of the Covid-19 pandemic. He said he would fulfill his promise of 100 million vaccinations on his 60th day in office. He also said he is ordering all states to make every American adult eligible for the vaccine by May 1st.

Biden said the federal government would set up a website to make it easier for people to find vaccination sites and schedule appointments. He said the Department of Education will focus on opening most elementary and middle schools in the U.S. within the next two months and wanted to make sure teachers, school staff, and bus drivers get vaccinations. He said if all Americans did their part to get vaccinated, we can enjoy socializing on the 4th of July.
The city of Minneapolis has reached a $27 million settlement with the family of George Floyd. The family filed a federal lawsuit months ago and now the settlement comes during the beginning portion of former police Derek Chauvin’s murder trial. Floyd’s family attorney Ben Crump said it’s the largest pretrial civil rights settlement ever and that it sends a powerful message that Black lives do matter and police brutality against people of color must end.

Tampa Police said one of their officers, Jesse Madsen, sacrificed himself to save others by swerving his police cruiser to ram his car into a wrong-way driver who was driving over 100 mph. Both the officer and the driver, a 25-year-old man from Colorado, were killed. Madsen was honored at a vigil last night.
New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D)’s sexual harassment controversy keeps on getting worse. A new female accuser, who used to be an aide to Cuomo, came forward with an allegation that she was groped at the Executive Mansion. The case was referred to local police in Albany. Democrats in the New York State Assembly agreed to launch an impeachment investigation. Top New York U.S. Representatives Jerrod Nadler and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez called on him to resign. Cuomo said on Sunday that he refuses to resign and that the only way he is leaving is if he is impeached and removed from office.
This Sunday is daylight saving time. The time will be ahead an hour beginning 2 a.m. on Sunday, so there is advice to set your clock one hour ahead before you sleep on Saturday night. We’ll have some more darkness in the morning but longer sunlight in the evening. But for those in Hawaii, most in Arizona, or those in Puerto Rico, there’s no daylight savings time change.
