Pittsburgh bridge collapse
This morning a four-lane bridge in Pittsburgh collapsed at around 6:50 am in the morning while a city bus and several vehicles were on it. Fortunately, nobody was killed, but three people were hospitalized.
In a strange coincidence, President Biden is flying in the city today to give a speech on infrastructure. The White House said Biden will proceed with the trip and stay in touch with city leaders about the bridge.
“Bomb cyclone” to hit Northeast
11 million people who live in areas from Virginia to eastern Maine are under blizzard warnings. A very strong winter storm, a “bomb cyclone,” will hit the Eastern coast today and intensify through Saturday. Some areas in Massachusetts may see about three feet of snow and wind gusts ranging from 50 to 70 mph.
Navy trying to retrieve jet from South China Sea
A new and advanced U.S. Navy fighter jet crashed into the South China Sea several days ago and now the U.S. military is trying to retrieve it from the bottom of the sea so it won’t end up in China’s hands. The F-35C jet has very advanced technology that the U.S. wants to keep secret. The jet crash-landed on a Navy ship on Monday and the pilot was forced to eject. The pilot and six service members were injured. A Chinese government official said they know about the crash but are not interested in the plane.
14.5 million sign up for Affordable Care Act plans
President Biden announced that a record 14.5 million Americans signed up to get health insurance through the Affordable Care Act, as known as Obamacare, for this year. The total number of people with ACA plans is about 30 million.
Michael Avenatti cross-examines Stormy Daniels
Michael Avenatti cross-examined his former client Stormy Daniels in his own trial on fraud and identity theft charges. Avenatti used to represent Stormy in her hush-money payment case against former president Donald Trump, but the two are now enemies. Avenatti is facing federal charges of stealing $300,000 in a book advance that was supposed to go to Stormy. Avenatti is representing himself in the case.

WV Gov. Justice features dog’s rear end in speech
West Virginia Gov. Jim Justice (R) gave his State of the State address on Thursday night and used his pet bulldog, named Babydog, to make a crude gesture in response to an insult from actor and singer Bette Milder.
In December, Milder was angry that WV Senator Manchin refused to support Biden’s “Build Back Better” bill, said West Virginians were “poor, illiterate, and strung out.” In his speech, Justice said the state has many accomplishments and told Milder that she could kiss Babydog’s “heinie.” Here is a clip, and it includes an ASL interpreter.

Clearly many people thought it was funny, but a Democratic state lawmaker said it was embarrassing and beneath the office.
Bidens welcome new cat in White House
First Lady Jill Biden announced that the Bidens have adopted a 2-year-old cat named Willow and that it will live in the White House. The cat is named after Jill’s hometown of Willow Grove, Pa.
The last time a cat lived in the White House was during the George W. Bush administration — the cat’s name was India.
