A federal jury found Sayfullo Saipov, the ISIS supporter who rented a U-Haul truck and used it to kill eight people on a bike path in New York City on Halloween Day in 2017, guilty on all counts of murder and related charges.

The same jury will, beginning on February 6, discuss whether to sentence Saipov to life in prison or give him the death penalty.
TikTok father Randy Gonzalez passes away
Randy Gonzalez, who was the father of a popular father-son TikTok account Enkyboys that has almost 16 million followers, passed away on Wednesday. He was 35 and was battling stage 4 colon cancer.
ABC News said Gonzalez and his son Brice became famous for their funny father-son comedy bits and dances. They rose to fame in 2020 and have been gaining followers since.
In November 2021, Gonzalez announced that he was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer and explained that he was told by a doctor that he only had 2 to 5 years left to live.
He said before he was diagnosed, he felt pain in his upper abdomen and after his wife encouraged him to get a colonoscopy, he found cancer. He said his doctor said it is very rare for young men like him to get colon cancer and he wants to spread awareness for young men to get checked when they’re in their 30s.

Dinosaur hatchery with over 250 eggs found in India
A team of paleontologists found 256 fossilized dinosaur eggs in 92 nesting sites in central India. The eggs belonged to the titanosaurs, which is one of the largest dinosaurs that roamed the Earth over 60 million years ago.
The paleontologists believe that the titanosaurs laid their eggs in shallow pits and then buried them, which is what modern-day crocodiles do.
U.S. forces kill ISIS leader in Somalia
Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin announced that the U.S. military killed a senior ISIS leader in Somalia. His name was Bilal al-Sudani. It is said that his aim was to expand ISIS across Africa.
USA Today explained that the military operation took place on Wednesday in a mountainous cave complex in northern Somalia. About 10 other ISIS fighters were killed. The operation was authorized by President Biden.
The New York Times explained that the U.S. military trained for the mission by building a replica of al-Sudani’s cave complex. The U.S. hoped to capture al-Sudani alive but said the response from his associates when troops arrived at the cave complex resulted in his death.
The Times said the troops likely gathered al-Sudani’s laptops and other electronic devices to get more information on the group.
No U.S. soldiers were injured by enemies, but one of them was bitten by a dog they brought with them.

Australian officials warn about missing radioactive capsule
Officials in Western Australia held an emergency press conference today to warn the public about a missing radioactive capsule that is as small as a coin but has the equivalent power of 10 X-rays in one hour if you were a few feet away from it.
Officials said the capsule fell out of a truck sometime after January 10 and that it could be anywhere between Newman and Malaga, a distance of over 1,400 kilometers. Officials have urged anyone who drove on a highway between these places to check their tires in case the capsule became lodged in them. The capsule is commonly used in mining operations.
Officials said anyone who happened to see it shouldn’t get near it but call authorities.
Over 20 Ukrainian civilians killed by Russian bombs
Ukrainian officials said a recent barrage of Russian shelling killed at least 10 Ukrainian civilians and wounded 20 others today in several areas in eastern Ukraine. On Thursday, several Russian missiles and drones killed at least 11 Ukrainians.
AP News said the bombardments came after announcements from the U.S. and Germany that they would send tanks to help the Ukrainian military. Poland said it would send about 75 tanks to Ukraine. Russia warned that the shipments of tanks mean that there is now a new level of confrontation with Western countries.
Jay Leno breaks bones in motorcycle crash
Jay Leno broke several of his bones in a motorcycle crash on January 17, which is his second serious incident in recent months with the first in November when he was burned while working on a vintage car. Leno said he is recovering from the burns and that the motorcycle accident happened when he was riding a vintage motorcycle through a parking lot and hit a wire that he did not notice. He said he was “clotheslined” and was knocked off and the motorcycle kept going. He broke his collarbone, two ribs, and cracked both of his kneecaps. Leno said he’s doing okay and was quiet about it because of the massive amount of coverage he got from his first incident in November. Leno is preparing to give comedy shows in Las Vegas beginning in March.
