Couple floored they are the sole guests at resort

A couple’s dream vacation at the five star resort, Grand Velas Boutique Los Cabos in Mexico, took an unexpected turn when they discovered they had the entire resort to themselves.

Cameron, known by the TikTok handle @freedomhustler, and his wife, celebrating their baby moon, stumbled upon what started as a joke and then turned into a strange experience. With a TikTok video garnering nearly 8 million views, Cameron documented the surreal moments as he explored the vast, empty resort.

“At first, it started as a joke…but it feels more like an episode from ‘Black Mirror,’” he says in the video, capturing the immaculate surroundings devoid of other guests. As the days progressed, the couple discovered they were the only ones participating in resort activities, enjoying lavish meals and lounging on their own private beach.

Despite the impeccable outdoor settings and luxurious amenities, the couple remained the sole guests.

When reached for comment, a representative for the resort told news outlets they are there to accommodate no matter what. “Velas Resorts operate at 100% regardless of the number of actual guests staying on property,” representative staff said.

Hong Kong fans demand refund after Messi sits out

Multiple sources reported that furious fans booed, jeered and chanted “refund” during Inter Miami’s much-hyped friendly match against Hong Kong XI in Hong Kong Sunday as Lionel Messi remained on the sidelines for the contest’s entire 90 minutes, despite pre-game assurances that the superstar player would take the pitch.

Public anger and a blame game have overshadowed Messi team’s 4-1 victory over the local side in front of more than 38,000 fans, each of whom had paid up to $620 for a ticket.

After the match, Inter Miami coach Martino said Messi had been suffering from muscle inflammation, but many fans questioned why he didn’t at least walk onto the pitch or greet the crowd, which also booed during a speech by Inter Miami co-owner David Beckham.

One fan said the disappointment among fans at Messi’s absence was palpable. Especially since some people had flown from overseas to see Messi play, so I felt for them in particular.

Woman arrested with 130 poisonous frogs

A woman has been charged with wildlife trafficking after Colombian police found 130 poisonous frogs worth $130,000 in her luggage at Bogotá airport on January 29.

Harlequin frogs were discovered in small film canisters and were dehydrated and stressed, officials said.

The Brazilian woman, who was headed to São Paulo via Panama, said she had been given the frogs as a gift from a local community in southern Colombia.

Harle quin frogs, also known as poison-dart frogs, measure less than the size of a human thumb.

Their skin glands produce a highly toxic poison which has in the past been used by indigenous people to coat the tips of the darts they use for hunting. It is strong enough to kill small animals.

Local police said the amphibians can fetch up to $1,000 each. Their endangered status makes them highly sought-after by private collectors in international markets.

Wildlife trafficking is common in Colombia and across Latin America, a region rich in biodiversity.

QB Patrick Mahomes’ dad faces DWI charge

Local news reported that Patrick Mahomes Sr., father of superstar Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated, according to a booking report from Saturday.

He was charged with a DWI and booked at Smith County Jail in Tyler, Texas.

Mahomes, 53, was released Sunday, jail records show. He posted a $10,000 surety bond. To obtain a surety bond, the defendant usually gives the bondsman a percentage of the total posted bail – normally 10%.

He was also arrested on a DWI charge in 2018. The following year Mahomes Sr. was sentenced to 40 days in jail time that would be served on weekends, according to Smith County, Texas, court records.

Mahomes Sr. was a pitcher in the Major Leagues for 11 seasons, spending the first half of his career with the Minnesota Twins before bouncing around with other teams. His representatives did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Alex has an update on Trump’s request from the Supreme Court. Here it is.

Supreme Court to hear Trump’s appeal on Colorado ballot decision

Thanks, Callie.

This Thursday, the Supreme Court will hear an appeal from Donald Trump on the Colorado decision that disqualified Trump from the state’s Republican primary ballot.

If you remember, in December, Colorado’s top court ruled that Trump cannot be on the ballot because they viewed Trump’s actions of trying to overturn the results of the 2020 election leading up to the Jan 6. attack on the Capitol as an act of insurrection. Colorado said Trump violated a section of the 14th Amendment of the Constitution which says anyone who engaged in insurrection cannot hold public office.

Trump, of course, disagrees with this ruling and is asking the Supreme Court to overturn it. Trump said he never engaged in insurrection. He argued that if he is removed from the Colorado ballot, it would be anti-democratic and would be akin to what Venezuela did when their leader excluded an opposition candidate from the ballot.

Attorneys on Colorado’s side said the nation has seen the chaos that Trump caused when he refused to accept his re-election defeat.

The Supreme Court’s decision will have an impact on Colorado and on a similar case in Maine where Trump is considered ineligible for their ballot.

Thanks for that update. That is all the news stories for today. See you tomorrow and stay with the light!
