Deaf TikToker from Guatemala killed while protecting mother
Renca Dunn, Daily Moth Reporter: On February 21st, a sad incident happened to a famous Deaf TikToker, with over 400k followers from Guatemala named Orlando Galindo (26). He was known as “Landito.” He was shot and killed while he was protecting his mother. Orlando was well known on social media for teaching sign language and was a respected figure in the community.

Based on the news article we read and the security footage shown, what seemed to have happened is a man walking into a clothes store which is owned by Orlando’s mother. A man walked in, wearing a red zip-up sweater, black hat, wearing a mask, and was holding a black plastic bag. He was “looking” around.
In the security footage, Orlando’s mother and Orlando are not seen, they are out of the video frame. You can only see the man who entered. He seemed to be talking with Orlando’s mother on the left side. He turned around and pulled out his gun and shot at them, but this was when Orlando came to protect his mother. The bullets hit him first and killed him then the gunman continued to shoot at the mother, but she survived.
We will show a few screenshots from the security footage. Warning, these images may be distressing.

We have included the link to that specific article with the security video for more information. From our understanding, it seems the police have made arrests but it seems there are more people involved with this and they have yet to confirm what the motive is behind this as they're still investigating. After the incident on February 21, there was a funeral for Orlando on February 24th.
We have reached out to Mauricio Gonzalez from Colombia and he is a good friend of Orlando. He has been posting several video updates on Orlando’s situation. We asked Mauricio to share a few things about Orlando.
Mauricio Gonzalez: Deaf and hearing people are grieving. We are grateful to Orlando for giving us positivity. He was proud of his Deaf culture and identity. Many in the Deaf community respected him. He taught hearing people. Please be like Orlando and his positivity. He didn’t talk bad about others. He didn’t talk behind others’ backs. He was positive. This is my sign name. I’m from Colombia. I am devastated by Orlando’s death. Not just me, but many others as well. We are grateful for Orlando and we love him.
Renca: Thank you Mauricio for your time. We have included a link to his account for other updates if you are interested. Our thoughts are with the community in Guatemala and those who were impacted by Orlando’s death.
