Deaf Poor People’s Campaign to feature two speakers during digital mass assembly on June 2

On June 20, 2020, there will be two deaf speakers from the Deaf Poor People’s Campaign (DPPC) who will be a part of a digital mass assembly hosted by the Poor People’s Campaign. This is a movement that was founded by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Here is a video from a DPPC’s Social Media Coordinator, Nathaniel Kelly. He will explain more about the event.

NATHANIEL KELLY:

This event is similar to Martin Luther King, Jr’s March on Washington in 1963. The Poor People’s Campaign planned to do a march but because of the coronavirus, it was changed to online. It’ll be on TV, YouTube, on Instagram, and everywhere. But we encourage you to watch it on our Facebook page on DPCC. We will talk about poverty, racism, ecological devastation, and to hear other people’s stories. Some famous people will speak out. There will be community leaders’ input. You can watch and support it. Two members of our DPPC team, Sarah Bear Young-Brown and Karla Mendez Guerrero will give presentations. They will talk about poverty in the deaf community and the Native deaf community as well. This event will be captioned and ASL interpreters will be provided. We will also talk about the upcoming election and we want our voices to be heard. We can do this! You can watch this on Facebook page, DPPC. The time of the event is this Saturday at 10 a.m. EST. It will be aired again at 6 p.m. EST. 10 am and 6 pm. After Saturday’s events, the DPPC team will host a discussion on thoughts and feelings from the Saturday event. We will share more information on our Facebook page about that. I hope you can join us! Thank you.

THE DAILY MOTH:

Thank you for explaining.

The link to sign up and RSVP to watch the campaign, which again, will be ASL interpreted and will feature two deaf speakers, is above in the description or in the transcript.

To get more information about the DPPC, I’ve included a link to a video with several deaf people explaining the vision of the DPPC and what they are fighting for.

You can also follow the DPPC on their Facebook page.
