Deaf News Briefs: Troy Kotsur in upcoming Netflix series; Deaf Austin Theatre announces “Chronicles of a Black Deaf Blind Girl”

Here are two Deaf News briefs.

The first: Oscar-winning Deaf actor Troy Kotsur will be in Netflix’s new series “Black Rabbit.” Deadline explained that the show follows the owner of a New York City hotspot and drama in his life with his brother. Jason Bateman and Jude Law are executive producers and starring.

Kotsur’s role is Joe Mancuso, who is a “local bookie with ties to organized crime (mob/mafia) and the brothers’ past.”

According to a report from Hello Magazine, filming began in April and will continue to September. The release date should be sometime in 2025.

The second news: Deaf Austin Theatre (DAT) announced that it is presenting a new show called “Chronicles of a Black Deaf Blind Girl.” It is written and performed by Ashlea Hayes, who is a DeafBlind actress. Joey Antonio is also in it as the choreographer and as a cast member. It is directed by Brian Cheslik.

DAT said this “one-woman play” is “about one woman’s journey into the dating world as a woman who is black, Deaf and Blind..”

Showtimes run from May 30 to June 2 in Austin. There is a live-streamed performance available for all of us to watch on June 1. Tickets start at $27.
