Deaf man with autism killed by car
The second Deaf News brief is an article from Atlanta News First that a deaf man with autism was hit and killed by a car in DeKalb County, Georgia on Friday night. His name was Darius Matthews (33).

Matthews’ family said he lived in a residential care facility and somehow wandered off at nighttime while wearing his pajamas. Police said a driver that may have struck him stayed at the scene. Matthews’ family said there may be a second car that was involved and didn’t stay.

Matthews’ family said they plan to pursue legal action in the future against the residential facility. It is not known the name of the facility.

The family said they want to influence proper care for people with disabilities and proper humanity — that accidents do happen but you should stop and help someone.
