Deaf News Briefs: MSD to announce superintendent; Savvy on Kidz Bop

Here are two Deaf News briefs.

Maryland School for the Deaf to announce superintendent

The Maryland School for the Deaf said they would announce the selection of MSD’ next superintendent on Monday, January 9th. The two finalists are John Serrano and Taiyabah Naeem.

A spokesperson for the MSD Superintendent Search committee, Akilah English, said the MSD Board of Trustees plans to convene on Monday, January 9th at the Columbia campus to hold an official vote and then make an announcement.

The announcement may bring a closure to a search process that has been ongoing since former Superintendent James Tucker announced his retirement in 2020.

Savvy on Kidz Bop

Savannah Dahan, the talented 12-year-old deaf girl who is known for her energetic ASL covers of popular songs, is now a part of Kidz Bop, a popular children music group that has over 3 million followers on social media.

Savannah’s stage name is “Savvy.” She told “People” that her goal is to show how beautiful music is, regardless of whether you can hear it or not. She said you just have to feel it in your heart.
