Deaf news briefs: Matt Klotz on “Big Brother”; Rob and Corey on “The Amazing Race”

We have two Deaf news briefs, both related to TV shows.

Matt Klotz on “Big Brother”

The first one is a quick update on how the deaf swimming star, Matt Klotz (27), is doing on the reality TV show “Big Brother.” On August 1st, we mentioned that Matt will be one of the houseguests on “Big Brother’s” 25th season and he is the first deaf contestant for that show. So far, Matt is doing good and it seems that he is well-liked in the house. Two weeks ago, America voted to choose four contestants for a secret competition. In that secret competition, Matt won the Power of Invincibility, which grants him the power to save a contestant who gets eliminated. He decided to save Jag Bains, the first Sikh contestant to ever appear on the show, and Matt developed a good partnership with him. Next week, 9 contestants will be chosen, and they will become the “core” group until the end of the game. Matt is becoming one of the fan favorites. You can check out the show on Sundays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays, however for Thursdays, the show will be live. This show is on CBS, but you can also catch the show on Paramount+. Matt has an Instagram account that you can check out and follow his journey. We included a link to his profile in the transcript.

Rob and Corey on “The Amazing Race”

The second brief is that on September 1st, we reported that there will be a Deaf father from Riverside, California and his CODA son from NYC, part of a TV show called “The Amazing Race.” Season 35 of this show kicked off last night and Rob and Corey McArthur are one of the 13 teams who will race around the world in the hope of winning $1 million. Right now, they are off to a good start. For the first episode, there were many challenges that each team had to do, which included navigating to find the airport without a phone, flying to Thailand as the first location, walking on a tightrope, eating cooked bugs, and more. Rob and Corey did well on all of them, and they placed second in completing the first phase. There was one cool part when Rob and Corey arrived at the airport before flying to Thailand and they had a brief conversation with two other contestants who are brothers- Greg and John. It seems that John knows some basic sign language by learning from the internet.
