Deaf News Briefs: Israeli lawmaker; “Audible” release date; deaf swimmer breaks world record

Here are three Deaf News briefs.

The first — Shirley Pinto became the first deaf member of Israel’s parliament, the Knesset, last week as a part of the transition of power from the outgoing Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the incoming Prime Minister, Naftali Bennett. “The Times of Israel” reported that Pinto used (Israeli) Sign Language when she swore her allegiance to the Knesset. Here is a video clip from an Israeli news channel called Kan.

Pinto is a member of the “New Right” party, which was co-founded by Prime Minister Bennett.

Bennett said seeing Pinto becoming a MK was one of the most meaningful moments for him.

The second Deaf News brief — the release date of Netflix’s “Audible,” which follows several deaf students at the Maryland School for the Deaf and has Nyle DiMarco as one of its producers, is set for July 1st. Netflix released a 2-minute trailer and MSD released an exclusive scene that showed a close game between MSD and the Texas School for the Deaf. I will show you short clips from each.
