Deaf man works with Ossoff campaign as canvasser

A deaf man from Georgia, James Carter, worked for the Jon Ossoff campaign as a paid canvasser. He was able to send brief videos of what he did.

JAMES CARTER:
Hello everyone! My name is James Carter. This is my sign name. My responsibilities were with the phone bank, text to text, check attendance, train volunteers, and knock on neighbors’ doors. I got experience, showed people that deaf people could be involved in their campaigns, be a community organizer, and be a part of any campaign. It was a great experience and I learned something new. It was really fascinating, fun, and interactive.

Thank you for sharing. Here is a video from our sponsor.

I was able to reach out to him today after Ossoff’s victory over Sen. Perdue. He will share his thoughts

JAMES CARTER:
Whoo! Jon Ossoff won his campaign! Thank you to everyone who voted. Remember to keep on voting and paying attention. For me, is my job with Ossoff over? Surely not. We have a lot to do with trainings and meetings. We are planning for the future. Keep an eye on what our plans will look like! See you later.

Alex:
Thank you for your time, James Carter. It’s nice to see deaf people being involved in the political process. Maybe you can consider working for a local political campaign as a canvasser or in some other position.
