Deaf man among Capitol rioters
A Deaf man was among those photographed in a FBI release seeking information on individuals suspected of making unlawful entry into the U.S. Capitol and assaulting law enforcement on January 6. He is not named in the photograph, but has a number assigned to him — #98. Deaf people on social media were able to identify the person as Vitali Goss-Jankowski, who is a current Gallaudet student.
You can see a male with a blue jacket and an appearance matching the FBI’s photograph in a separate video that shows him walking and pushing into a mob that tried to break through a tight corridor that leads to the inside of the Capitol where there were many police officers in riot gear trying to block the entrance. You can see him helping to carry police riot shields. He was also holding a black object that appears to be a taser. He is seen in the video walking to the front of the police line before walking back out. The link to the video is in the transcript.
This scene is the same one where there was a viral video of a police officer bleeding from the teeth and being crushed when he was caught in the middle of the police officers and the mob. That particular part happened 15 minutes after the deaf man left the hallway.
I was able to reach out to Vitali and he confirmed that he is the person that the FBI was looking for and that he was at the U.S. Capitol on January 6. He said he turned himself in last night and was questioned by the FBI, but was not arrested. He said he might be contacted by the FBI in the future for further questioning. He admitted he was stupid and wrong for going in the violent crowd, but said it was not his intention to enter the building or to hurt cops. He also told me that he had a taser with him that he found on the floor but had it turned off.

The FBI does update their posters with a red “ARRESTED” label if a person is arrested. The photograph of the man matching Goss-Jankowski’ appearance did not have that label on it. The FBI also released a list of people who have been arrested so far and his name is not among these listed. I have reached out to the FBI to get more information. CNN reported today that 275 cases are open in connection to the Capitol riot.
I reached out to Gallaudet University and they provided this statement, “The University is aware of potential student involvement in the attack on the U.S. Capitol on January 6. We are investigating internally and also cooperating with law enforcement officials.”
