The third one is the movie “Cry Macho” directed by Clint Eastwood who is also the main character of this movie. This movie is available on HBO Max. In that movie, it has short scenes that include a hard of hearing actress who is 7 years old named Abiah Martinez who plays the role as a granddaughter of one of the characters in the movie. The plot is about a former rodeo star named Mike (Eastwood) takes a job from his former boss to bring home his son from Mexico.

I read an article by The Gazette, it mentions Abiah’s mother said that Abiah is hard of hearing and they are from Colorado Springs, Colorado. Abiah’s mother saw a casting call by Colorado Hands & Voices that the movie was looking for a deaf Hispanic girl. So, Abiah’s mother decided to audition her daughter and she got the role. In the article, it seems that Abiah had a wonderful experience working with Eastwood and thought that Eastwood was a “fun” and “nice” person.

I personally have watched the movie and saw the short scenes that Abiah appeared. She does not have a character name and is referred as the “granddaughter of Marta” who lives in a small town in Mexico. The two major appearances were when Abiah was sitting down with Mike (Eastwood) and the both of them signed a little bit together. Both of them used American Sign Language.

The second scene is at the dinner table when Marta (the grandmother) prays. No one is signing and Abiah is looking at her grandmother.
