Deaf actress in new TV show; new upcoming film about Deaf track team

Here are two entertainment news briefs. The first one is that Sandra Frank, a Deaf actress known for her role in Broadway’s “Spring Awakening,” and the TV show “Zoey’s Extraordinary’s Playlist,” has landed a new role with a TV series on NBC called, “New Amsterdam.” Sandra’s character name is Dr. Elizabeth Wilder who is a deaf surgeon. Based on one article, it seems that the storyline is about Dr. Max Goodwin who is a medical director for New Amsterdam hospital and he tries to recruit Dr. Wilder (Sandra) to join his team because Dr. Wilder is one of the best surgeons. She refuses to join, but Dr. Goodwin is not giving up. So, we will have to find out if Dr. Wilder joins Dr. Goodwin’s team or not by watching the show. “New Amsterdam” show airs on NBC at 10pm EST every Tuesday.

The second brief is a new film called “Flash Before the Bang” directed by a Deaf person named Jevon Whetter. The film will feature three well-known actors, Troy Kotsur (from CODA), Deanne Bray (from Heroes), and Nyle DiMarco (DeafU executive producer). The story is inspired by the life of Jevon and the all deaf track team at Oregon School for the Deaf in 1986 when they overcame discrimination and won state championship. Based on IMDB, Troy will be the track coach, Nyle will be the assistant coach, and Deanne will be the mother of one of the leading characters. Pearl Street Film, led by Ben Affleck and Matt Damon, and Exodus Film Group both have boarded for this film. That’s the information we know now. Based on one article, it says that the filming should begin by Spring 2022.
