Dallas Lowry family donates $15,000 to Oklahoma School for the Deaf

Three months ago, in June, a Deaf man named Dallas Lowry (19) from Oklahoma died after a hit and run. He was brought to the hospital and was in a medically-induced coma. He later died. Dallas was riding his bike to work at Starbucks early in the morning when that happened. The accused driver is Kylah Pumphrey. The Daily Moth did a report on this on June 18th. We have included a link to that video for the full story in the transcript.

Now, this is a follow up report on what has happened recently. Dallas was a graduate of Oklahoma School for the Deaf. Dallas’ family donated $15,000 to the OSD Foundation which now it is renamed as Dallas Fighting Heart Award in honor of Dallas. This award will help an OSD student each year for whatever this student needs. In one article, it mentioned that OSD also plans on having a wall with Dallas and his story. Dallas was a high achiever at OSD and participated with sports and clubs. He was also an organ donor so when he died, his organs helped save 8 lives.

As for the accused driver, Kylah, in the news report, Scott (Dallas’ father) said that they came to peace with the driver because she did not do it on purpose. He said that it was an accident and he has nothing against her.

Reporter: Scott says since Dallas’ death, he’s gotten to know the woman accused of wrecking his son.

Scott: I have nothing against her, she is the sweetest little girl you could ever meet.

Reporter: He says he knows Dallas wouldn’t want his family to be mad.

Scott: I wasn’t there. Mom wasn’t there. It was him and her that were involved in that. They know what happened and I know with what happened he’s not going to be mad at her, he knows she didn’t do it.

OSD’s superintendent Chris Dvorak mentioned that “Dallas’ greatest accomplishment was earning the admiration and friendship of everyone he was around.”

Dallas’ father Scott shared that the Lowry family will start a non-profit organization in Dallas’ name that will give support to Deaf/Hard of Hearing, veterans, law enforcement, firefighters, and EMS in the form of mental health training and family support groups.

Dallas continues to make an impact with his legacy.
