Celebrities on “Who Wants To Be A Millionaire” wins top prize for ASL program

On Wednesday night’s episode of ABC’s “Who Wants To Be A Millionaire,” which features celebrity contestants who hope to win big for organizations or charities they supported, actor and comedian Ike Barinholtz and his father Alan, who is also an actor, competed to win money for the ASL Program at Los Encinos School in Los Angeles. They won the $1 million top prize.

Ike said his brother, Jon, has a deaf son named Dezi. He is Ike’s nephew and Alan’s grandson. Ike said he hoped to have an ASL program set up at the school and have it become a model for other schools across the country.

The father-and-son duo played excellently, going through most of the questions without needing to use a lifeline until they reached the $500,000 question. They got that question right, and then it was the final, $1 million question, which asked what “zax” meant. The Barinholtzs took a risk and said it was “D,” a tool for cutting roofing slates.

When they were told that the answer was correct, they celebrated in triumph and were awarded a giant $1 million check for the ASL Program at Los Encinos School.

The school posted on Facebook, “Thanks a MILLION… for supporting our new ASL program…”

Last night's episode was epic. Read the press release and watch the winning moment below!”

A press release explained that the school (a private K-6 school) currently does not have any deaf students but wanted to bring ASL to its curriculum this coming school year because the school’s leadership “recognizes the value of ASL as a second language for all children promoting inclusivity, understanding and connection.”

The press release said the school is partnering with “The ASL Shop” and its founder and CEO Stephanie Zornoza, a Deaf woman who you may have seen on Instagram @theaslshop, to begin faculty training this month with the aim to immerse staff and students in the Deaf culture.

Nice, congratulations to the Barinholtzs, the Los Encinos School, and The ASL Shop.
