Canadian Deaf man loses arm

Haven Fowler (20), a deaf man who lives in Belleville, Canada (Ontario Province) was involved with a serious accident that resulted in him losing his right arm.

We reached out to Haven’s mother Barbara and his aunt Karinna who has organized a GoFundMe page to support the medical costs of Haven’s recovery. This information is from them.

Haven is a line production worker at a company named JBS Food Canada. His area is the meat grinder. On December 30th, he was about to be finished with his shift so he turned off the meat grinder machine and began cleaning it. Apparently someone else turned on the machine. He could not hear the machine being turned on and his right arm got caught in the machine. He was transported to the hospital and had to have surgery. His arm was reattached, but no nerves have been connected yet. Haven also had a massive blood transfusion because he lost a lot of blood.

Karinna said that Haven will need to decide if he wants a prosthetic hand or keep the hand that is reattached, but might not be as useful now because he uses sign language.

She mentioned that right now Haven is angry that this happened, but also overwhelmed and grateful for the support and caring messages he got from the community.

Haven has a long way to go for recovery. He will have to undergo multiple surgeries. So, the GoFundMe page is to help offset the medical expenses.

You can support Haven’s road to recovery. We added a link in this transcript to the GoFundMe page. We, The Daily Moth, send you, Haven, our thoughts and wishing you a speedy recovery.

UPDATE: We were recently notified that the GoFundMe page has been closed due to several reasons. Link has been removed. Thank you for your support.
