Bachelor recap #7 with deaf contestant
It is week 7 for Season 25 of the “Bachelor” show with the first Black bachelor, Matt James, and the first deaf contestant, Abigail Heringer from Oregon, chasing for his love. This is a recap of what happened last week and this week.
There is a racism controversy that is happening related to one of the contestants, Rachael Kirkconnell. Some photos of her surfaced from 2018 of her attending a plantation-themed party. It went viral.
Chris Harrison, the long time host since the Bachelor started in 2002, was part of an interview with Rachel Lindsay on the show “Extra.” I am going to set a sign for Rachel Lindsay because I do not want confusion between Rachel and the other woman Rachael. Rachel was the first Black Bachelorette in 2017. She is now a reporter for “Extra.” So, Rachel was asking Chris about what he thought of the criticism against the contestant, Rachael. Many viewers said how Chris responded to Rachel (the reporter) perpetuated racism because he appeared to dismiss people’ concerns with Rachael’s pictures. Chris had to apologize and mentioned that he would be stepping down from the Bachelor show for a while and will not participate in the “After The Final Rose'' taping.
When the video interview went viral, all of the female contestants from Matt’s season posted on their Instagram that they are in solidarity to take a stand against racism and they stand together with Rachel Lindsay. Here is a screenshot of Abigail’s post.
That was one major thing that has happened since the past week. Now, about last night’s episode, Abigail’s journey has come to an end. Matt sent her home. She did throughout the show express that she did not have enough time with Matt. She took Matt aside to talk with him to see if he is on the same “level” as her about where their relationship is going.
Matt told her that no he was not and it would be best to send her home. Abigail got in the car and you could see that she was upset. She said all she wanted was more time with Matt and said, “I feel like I’m always the one that makes men realize what they want next.”

Abigail has many fans. After she got eliminated, many people on social media, including the former Bachelor, Nick Viall, posted that they wanted her to be the next Bachelorette.
So, this concludes the recaps of Abigail as the first deaf contestant on the Bachelor show, a historic first. Her journey may end with Matt, but will it end with the Bachelor franchise? Will she be the next Bachelorette or will we see her in Bachelor on Paradise? I guess we will find out as time goes.
