Three girls, between 12 and 13, arrested for beating disabled man to death

D.C. police said a 12-year-old girl and two 13-year-old girls have been arrested and charged with murder over the weekend in the beating of an older, disabled man five months earlier – last fall in Washington, D.C.

Reggie Brown, a 64-year-old Northwest D.C. resident, died after he was assaulted on October 17, 2023. Officers responded to the scene at about 1 a.m. and pronounced him dead at the scene. An autopsy determined he died of blunt force trauma and was a homicide victim.

The three young girls were caught on camera carrying out what detectives described as “horrific.” The graphic video played in court Friday and showed a group of girls following Brown as he tried to get away by climbing up a chain fence. The girls pulled him down and stomped his head onto the pavement. They pulled his pants down around his ankles, removed his belt and beat him with it. Then, as Brown lay on the ground in a pool of blood, the girls started laughing and chatting. They appeared to be in a celebratory mood as they walked away. Detectives found no connection between Brown and the girls.

A detective shared that Brown was disabled, had mental health issues, and had a metal plate in his head and only two fingers on each hand. Brown’s family said he had recently battled cancer and was frail. Residents in the Northwest neighborhood Brown lived in told FOX 5 he was peaceful and sometimes asked people for money.

Google agrees to destroy browsing data to settle ‘incognito’ lawsuit

According to court documents filed Monday in San Francisco federal court, Google will delete billions of data records as part of a settlement for a lawsuit accusing the tech giant of improperly tracking the web-browsing habits of users who thought they were browsing the internet privately via “Incognito”.

The suit was originally filed in 2020 but the terms of the settlement were first disclosed in a filing on Monday accusing Google of misrepresenting the kind of data it collects from users who browsed the internet in private mode in Chrome.

As part of the settlement, Google will also update its disclosure to inform users about what data it collects each time a user initiates a private browsing session. Google has already started implementing these changes.

For the next five years, Google will also let private browsing users block third-party cookies as part of the settlement. Google also will no longer track people’s choices to browse the internet privately.

Man arrested after vehicle crashes into gate at Atlanta FBI field office

According to the FBI, a man was arrested at the FBI office in Chamblee, Georgia after ramming a car into their security gate just after noon.

He attempted to follow an authorized vehicle through the gate but was stopped. Two other agents who were leaving at the time got out of their vehicle and detained him.

The two agents called DeKalb County police, who took the man into custody. He has not been identified yet, but the FBI agent in charge told a news outlet the man was not associated with the facility.

So far, officials have confirmed no one was injured.

Agents and bomb techs checked the man’s vehicle, which is standard protocol. The FBI said it was considering both state and federal charges against the man, but has not revealed a possible motive for his actions.

The FBI confirmed the man was taken to a local hospital for a mental evaluation.

Vontae Davis, former NFL star, found dead in Florida home at age 35

Former Miami Dolphins and Indianapolis Colts cornerback Vontae Davis was found dead in his South Florida home on Monday, but police say no foul play is suspected. He was 35.

Police in the Fort Lauderdale suburb of Davie said they responded to a medical emergency at Davis’ home Monday morning, but Davis was dead when officers arrived. No cause of death has been released pending autopsy results. The investigation is still ongoing.

Davis played for 10 seasons in the NFL. Davis played three seasons for Miami before being traded to Indianapolis just before the 2012 season. He played six seasons with the Colts before joining the Buffalo Bills in 2018 on a one-year deal.

However, less than two weeks into the campaign, the then-30-year-old defensive back walked away from the game and announced his retirement abruptly at halftime against the Los Angeles Chargers.

Dolphins, Colts and Bills offered their condolences and prayers to Davis’ loved ones in their respective social media posts.

See a news brief about World Central Kitchen staff members in Gaza from Alex. Here you go.

7 WCK team members killed in Gaza

Thanks, Callie.

The World Central Kitchen, a well-known nonprofit organization that provides meals to those affected by disasters or conflicts, announced that seven members of their team were killed by an Israeli military strike in Gaza.

The WCK said their members were hit while they were traveling in two vehicles with more than 100 tons of food brought to Gaza. The WCK said they did coordinate movements with the Israeli military but were still hit.

A news photo shows that the roof of a WCK vehicle had a huge hole in it, presumably from an airstrike.

The WCK said this is unforgivable. The seven who were killed are from Australia, Poland, United Kingdom, a dual citizen of the U.S. and Canada, and Palestine.

The WCK said it would pause its operations in the region and would make decisions about the future of their work soon.

Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu said their forces unintentionally struck innocent people in Gaza. He said this happens in war and they are investigating it.

Thanks for that brief. That is all the top stories for today. See you tomorrow and stay with the light!
