Alabama deaf couple and two children dead in murder-suicide

There was a very tragic incident in Alabama on Sunday morning when a deaf man shot and killed his deaf wife and two CODA teenage daughters before turning the gun on himself.

This happened in Riverside, Alabama, which is about 40 miles east of Birmingham.

The man's name was William Huntoon Vance, his wife's name was Florence Diane Vance, and their two children were 16 and 13 years old.

Local news said on Sunday at around 9:47 a.m., police responded to a call that came from a suicidal man who said he did something bad and to come now. When they arrived at the family's house, they saw William with a handgun. The officers said they tried to talk with the man, but he shot and killed himself.

Police officers went inside the house and found three female victims, all with gunshot wounds. All were pronounced dead on the scene.

William was 54 and Florence was 51.

"The Daily Moth" was informed that Florence was a vocational rehabilitation counselor. There are profiles on social media with the name Florence Vance that state she worked with the Alabama Department of Rehabilitation Services and was a vocational evaluator. A Facebook profile shows a family of four that matches with the description of the family -- a husband and wife and two teenage girls.

According to local news, the two teenage girls attended the Pell City School System. The school system released a statement saying they are in mourning and express their deepest sympathy and have counselors available to support students and faculty members.

Local news reports say the small community in Riverside, Alabama is shocked and shaken by the incident. Deaf people on social media have also expressed shock and sadness.
